Tobacco Cigs Brand Marketing News

Historical note

In 1933 Peter Jackson (Overseas) acquired the right to use the Du Maurier trademark for cigarettes from Lady Muriel Du Maurier. Originally, the rights were renewable annually, but this changed to a'perpetual basis on her death. The first Du Maurier brand was launched shortly after the acquisition in 1933. Du Maurier Medium was a plain cigarette in a blue pack. It was withdrawn in the 1950s. In 1937 a cork tipped version in a red laube box was launched in the U. K. aimed primarily at female smokers. When B. A. T. bought Peter Jackson (Overseas) it acquired almost world-wide export rights to the Du Maurier trademark. In 1935 Gallaher bought the rights for the UK and Eire. In Australia it is marketed by Philip Morris.
